1. Read the manual all the way through. I know, I know, blah, blah, blah. But really, there is some definitely helpful information in there.
2. Fill the generator with 10w30 motor oil to the edge of the fill hole.
3. Gas the generator up and open the breather cap on the gas tank.
3. Turn the power switch to "ON".
4. Wait at least ten minutes for the gas to make it's way through the carburetor. Make a coffee, play some poker online
or read the paper but don't touch it for at least ten minutes. If you don't leave it long enough then it may not get the fuel it needs. Once ten minutes is up, then you can continue...
5. Turn the choke to "start".
6. Attempt to start the generator. If it doesn't start in the first 4-5 tries, wait 5 more minutes, then try again.
7. Once it has started, let it run at idle (smart throttle "on") for two hours. This will break the engine in.
8. Change the oil after 50 hours of use. This way you will remove any foreign objects that may be in the engine from the manufacturing process (This is a good thing to do with a new car too!). |

1. Use a piece of plywood or a non-shag rug under your generator if you are setting it on the ground. The air intake on the generator is sometimes (depending on the generator) located on the bottom. This will minimize dust getting in the filter and the engine. (if you are in a dusty environment, I STRONGLY recommend this!)
2. If you are using a 20A connector from your rig (a typical 3 prong household connection), curl the cord in such a way that you are applying pressure on the connection to keep it from vibrating loose. |

1. Change the oil after every 100-200 hours of use. I change it every 100 hours - I want to keep my Kipor generator happy!
2. Inspect the air filter every oil change or three. More often when you are in dusty conditions. If it's dirty, wash it in mild soap and water and let it air dry. Then put it back in.
3. Check the oil level every 50 hours to see if any needs to be added. The generator has an automatic shutdown feature to protect the engine, but I like to decide when the generator shuts down!

| 1. Make sure you haven't flooded the carburetor. You can drain the carburetor using the drain screw located at the base of the carburetor. There is a hose coming out of the carburetor where this screw is located. Click here for a picture. |
| 2. If the generator starts for a second or two and then goes out, check to see if the low oil light comes on. Check the engine oil to make sure there is plenty of oil. |
| 3. Check the spark plug. Pull out the spark plug and make sure it isn't all gummed up. If it looks like there is carbon buildup, clean it with an emory cloth and re-insert it. |
| 4. Check the ignition switch. Remove the ignition switch using a phillips head screwdriver. Once you have it removed, look for a metal tab inside. You need to bend this up very gently. Sometimes this tab will lose it's "spring" by repeated use. Reinstall the switch and listen for a gentle click when you turn it on and off. If you hear the click, then you have fixed the "spring" properly. |
